Haftay received his BSc. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Mekelle Institute of Technology, Ethiopia in 2009. After graduation, he was hired by the Aksum University as an assistant lecturer and researcher in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. In addition, He worked for Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Affairs as a junior network administrator for nearly nine months. He joined and successfully completed the Graduate Program in Information and Communication Technologies(GP ICT) given jointly by the University of Trento and Scoula Superiore Santa ' Anna, Italy in 2012-2015. The program awards MSc in Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Trento and Diploma in Research Studies (Master) in Communication Networks Engineering from the Scoula Superiore Santa 'Anna. Moreover, he developed his Master thesis in the area of free space optical communications in German Aerospace Centre (DLR), Munich, Germany. After graduation, he won the Italian Research & Education Network, GARR consortium scholarship to pursue his research study under the supervision of prof. Fabrizio Granelli from the University of Trento on the topic of ' Towards Remote Access to Virtualized Telecom Research Infrastructures ' in 2016-2018. The goal of the research project was to define, implement and demonstrate a proper management and virtualization architecture able to automatically allocate capacity and virtual topologies based on users’ requests. Starting March 2018, Haftay has become a member of the IMDEA Networks research team as part of the Networked Systems and Algorithms Group, led by Prof. Dr. Arturo Azcorra.
